Some Real Competition For The iPhone?

Since the announcement on May 19th of the Palm Pre’s release date, which will be June 6th, 2009 (yes, that’s 2 days before the rumored iPhone 3 release), there have been sightings of the Pre “in the wild”. For those of you not following the story, the Pre is the latest and hopefully for Palm’s sake the greatest Palm phone to hit the market to date. Palm is hoping it will be an iPhone killer, and it’s shaping up that it just might be that. The video shows off just some of the features of the Pre and it looks really nice.

It’s got a touch screen of course, and the interface looks smooth and simple to understand. One BIG advantage that the Pre has over the iPhone and many other touch devices on the market today is that it also has a full, slide-out, QWERTY keyboard… real buttons! Can you imagine! That keyboard may be enough to make this the “business” touch phone of the future since the Blackberry Storm doesn’t seem to be doing all that well because of the glass keyboard… there is Storm 2.0 coming out in September though but that’s another blog post! :)

The Pre has everything you’d expect like a camera, video and audio capabilities, web browsing and email. The screen is a 3.1 inch half VGA screen and looks pretty slick. I like that to close an application all you have to do is slide it off the top of the screen and it shuts down.

I’m thinking that this might be my next phone if it comes to the proper carrier way up here in the great white north. Watch the video and leave a comment below with your opinions!
