Rumors are starting to fly about the new iPhone which everyone is expecting to be announced at the WWDC convention which is coming up June 8-12, 2009 in San Francisco. For those “not in the know”, WWDC is the World Wide Developers Conference which is a 4 day conference put on by Apple where they bring together everyone who develops for the Mac Platform and the iPhone and announce new and upcoming things. This gives developers a chance to see what they need to make their programs do in order to continue working on Apples platforms.

This year, Apple is expected to announce the newest in their line of iPhones. Below are just some of the rumored specs.

  • 32GB and 16GB storage (up from the current 16GB and 8GB models)
  • $199 and $299 price points to be maintained
  • 3.2-megapixel camera (up from the current 2-megapixel camera)
  • Video-recording and editing capabilities
  • Ability to send a picture & video via MMS
  • Discontinuation of the metal band surrounding the edge of the device
  • OLED screen
  • 1.5 times the battery life of the current models
  • Double the RAM and processing power
  • Built-in FM transmitter
  • Apple logo on back will glow
  • Rubber-tread backing
  • Sleeker design
  • Built-in compass
  • The camera, GPS, compass and Google map combined will identify photo and inform about photo locations
  • Turn-by-turn directions

Another item everyone is talking about being released at the conference is Apples new operating system called Snow Leopard. They are expected to release the API (Application Programming Interface) which is the code needed to allow 3rd party programs to talk to the Mac operating system.

Apple has not said for sure whether either of these items are definitely going to be discussed. Mac fans will just have to wait until June 8th to see what happens.

Another thing that Mac fans are hoping for is that Steve Jobs, the Head Hauncho at Apple make the presentations of these items at the WWDC. Jobs took a 6 month leave of absence in January of this year and will hopefully return to the helm of Apple in time for WWDCs start on June 8th.
