HTC announced on Monday that they will be distributing a new ANDROID powered phone.  For those who may not know, ANDROID is the mobile operating system which was released by Google some time ago. This phone, called the HTC Hero, will be the latest contender to enter the mobile smart phone market with a touch interface. Other touch phones we’ve discussed are the Apple iPhone, Blackberry Storm, and the Palm Pre. This phone has a lot of similar characteristics to the other phones we’ve discussed. Below are some of the specs for the HTC Hero:

• 3.2″ Touch Screen – 320×480 Resolution
• Trackball w/Enter Button
• GPS
• Bluetooth
• 5.0 Megapixel Camera
• Plays MP3 audio, MPEG4 Video
• microSD Card Slot

With more and more competition showing up in the mobile smart phone space, it should work out well for customers looking to purchase a touch smart phone because we all know that competition drives prices down! But even with prices going lower, many feel that the iPhone is still the best choice for a touch phone simply because of the VAST number of applications that can be downloaded from the Apple App Store. They are miles ahead of the competition in this regard and this gives them a BIG advantage over their competitors…plus Apple seems to have the hype behind it with most people never even hearing about the release of the HTC Hero.
