About MikeCarpenter.ca

mike-standingSo what can I say about myself? I’m 35 years old. I’ve been married for 12 years and have three beautiful young girls ages 11, 7, and 6 years.

I live in the big town of Quispamsis (kwis-pam-sis), New Brunswick (pop. 13,757), which is on the outskirts of Saint John, New Brunswick. I was born and raised in the area, and am looking forward to raising my children here as well.

I graduated from the Computer Programming Technology course at the local New Brunswick Community College in June of 2000. I graduated with honours, and was voted the “Best All-Round” student by the faculty of the department. It was a grueling 2 years, but it was well worth it. You can check out our “Graduation Web Site” which I designed and built by clicking here.

Since graduating, I’ve worked a number of jobs. My first job right out of college was for CARIS. This actually started as a work-term placement through the Community College, but I was offered full time after my 8 week work-term was done. The job was in Quality Assurance though, and I wasn’t interested in that. I officially worked at CARIS for 13 days before leaving to move on to my next job.

Global Advanced Technology was the job that I left for. It was great! It was in my home town (CARIS was in Fredericton which meant a one hour commute there and back everyday), and paid substantially more. But more than that, it was a MUCH more relaxing work environment, and it was development, not Quality Assurance. I started out working in their E-Commerce application ePlanetShopping.com and eventually moved on to Contract work.

I did a 3 month contract at iMagicTV (now know as alcatel) working in Java which was an experience because at that time, I had no formal training in Java. I ended up writting a component of their BroadBand cable television system.

Once I completed the contract at iMagic, I moved back in to the office at GAT and returned to working on their E-Commerce Application. Other responsibilities that I took on included Network, Email, and Webserver Administration, and Primary Application Developer. Currently, although now self-employed, I am the Information Technology manager for GAT.

Now I run Vital Logic which is a small Internet Development company. I contract myself out to other businesses and Individuals to do Internet Development for them. I am still the primary developer of ePlanetShopping.com, and I work with Master Promotions Ltd. as well

I used to teach night courses at the local Community College but with 3 kids and all the other things I have on my plate, I don’t really have time to do that anymore.

I think that about covers it. Are you having Mike Carpenter OVERLOAD!?!?!
